HOUSE IN TIMISOARA, ROMANIA
The project is located in a neighborhood of small houses, within an area of residential expansion of the city of Timisoara, characterized by traditional single-family homes.
The building was designed as a simple volume of brick and wood that opens onto the garden with modular sun screens. The horizontal enclosure, a play of sculptured volumes, is inspired by the wooden roofs typical of Romania.
At the ground floor is placed the living room and the service spaces of the main apartment and a two-room apartment with separate access. The bedrooms on the first floor are organized around the double height living room and their gallery access. The vertical connection is made through a staircase positioned in the volume of the entrance, that is detached from the main volume, assuming its own identity thanks to the use of a different type of bricks. The continuous glass-wall, with full-height windows and screening systems in wood, creates suggestive transparencies between the inside and the outside. The outdoor area also constitute a complex mediation between the building and the surrounding garden.
